Energy Conservation Committee Minutes - June 14, 2017

LITTLETON ENERGY CONSERVATION COMMITTEE
                                  MEETING 14 JUNE 2017

Attendees:   Peter Cooper, Ron Bolt, and, John Lofgren

Guest: Justin Roshak, lead reporter for the Littleton Courier

Administrative Matters:

The minutes of the May meeting were approved.

Wood Pellet Operations

Peter has determined that there is no BTU meter at the highway garage.

Opera House

Bill and Peter met with Commissioner George Mitchell regarding the scope of insulation work at the Opera House. One concern is the “weeping walls” situation that has plagued the building for years. Peter suggested using an Add Alternative to the scope that would allow for the proposal of multiple solutions.

Information and Education

The Courier published the lengthy article on the recent activities of the ECC and one of the five energy saving articles submitted by Bob O’Conner. Justin will check into the status of the other four articles and giving attribution to the committee. Peter will send Justin a draft of an article on the Kill-A-Watt meters available at the library.

Meeting with Science Teacher

Peter and Bob met with the middle school science teacher, Samantha Whitson, on 31 May to discuss matters of mutual interest. Areas for possible future consideration:

  • Student-led projects, such as food composting
  • Field trips to local area facilities that use energy saving ideas
  • Energy efficient of school facilities

Energy Management Program

Ron will work on scheduling appointments in July and August with all department heads for the annual EMP visits. Appointments will also be sought with the Waste Water Treatment Plant, Senior Center, and library. The goal will be to compile observations and recommendations by September and brief the Board of Selectmen in October. Part of the EMP includes a power point presentation that will be posted to the town’s website.

 Other Business

  • The committee agreed that hosting a Button Up Workshop would be a good idea and consistent with our 2017 goals.

  • Peter will work with Sue Pilotte on the energy conservation checklist for the Opera House.

  • The Local Energy Solutions Annual Conference will be held on 28 October at the Grappone Center in Concord.

Next meeting: 12 July 2017, 9 AM, Community Center

Ron Bolt, Secretary
